Pac-12 discussing the possibility of playing conference games only in 2020
While nothing is set in stone at this point, the Pac-12 has discussed the possibility of playing conference only games for the 2020 season, according to USC coach Clay Helton.
Helton acknowledged that no decision on the upcoming season is expected to be made for at least six weeks but that playing an exclusive Pac-12 schedule could be one of the outcomes for the 2020 season.
“It’s been discussed in our Pac-12 meetings, and it’s been discussed by the commissioners,” Helton said during a recent teleconference according to ESPN.
That’s noteworthy considering Alabama and USC are set to open the season in Arlington on Sept. 5. According to Paul Finebaum, Alabama has already discussed replacing USC with TCU in the event that USC is unable or unwilling to play in the upcoming season opener.
If this is the decision that is made by the Pac-12, Texas A&M would also be affected as the Aggies are set to host Colorado on Sept. 19.
There may still be plenty of time remaining before any final decisions are made but it is fascinating that we are only a few weeks out before massive declarations are made and yet the number of varying outcomes all appear to be on the table when it comes to the 2020 college football season.
