Paul Finebaum blasts Penn State’s schedule, says Nittany Lions aren’t Playoff-worthy

Paul Finebaum has made his bones commenting on Southeastern Conference football over the years, but the ESPN host and college football pundit doesn’t just sound off on the SEC – as he took aim at Penn State after the 3rd-ranked Nittany Lions’ 30-24 overtime home loss to No. 6 Oregon.
“They just don’t have the schedule anymore, and you know why? They played Nevada, Florida International and Villanova while other schools like Ohio State were playing Texas and Alabama was playing Florida State and Michigan was playing Oklahoma,” Finebaum said during a Sunday morning ESPN SportsCenter appearance. “It just will not help them playing a ridiculously easy schedule and they can’t win big games. Quite frankly, if they lose to Ohio State, they’ll only have Indiana who could be a ranked opponent.
“They don’t deserve to be in the College Football Playoff.”
While the Nittany Lions will certainly cycle down the Top 25 a bit after losing to the Ducks, falling in overtime to a Top 10 team shouldn’t fully eliminate Penn State on its own. Penn State plays at UCLA this Saturday as part of a milquetoast October slate before traveling to play the top-ranked Buckeyes on Nov. 1 and then facing the No. 11 Hoosiers in State College.
