ESPN pundit Paul Finebaum has long had the pulse of Southeastern Conference football, and he was outspoken Sunday morning about the status of embattled LSU coach Brian Kelly in the wake of the Tigers’ 49-25 loss to Texas A&M.

“It is DEFCON 1 for Brian Kelly right now,” Finebaum said with a somber voice on The Matt Barrie Show on YouTube. “Losing and getting blown out for the second time now, remember last year in early November it was Alabama and now it’s Texas A&M – you can’t let that happen at home. It is inexcusable and it is not accepted.”

Finebaum added that the most serious commentary coming of Louisiana about Kelly, who is a weekly guest of Finebaum’s show on SEC Network, came from the governor’s mansion about second-guessing LSU’s plan to raise ticket prices.

“You understand, Matt, how political that state is – with the capital right down the street from Tiger Stadium,” Finebaum said. “That was a body blow to this tenure of Brian Kelly’s, because everything is intertwined down there. … It is a bad look, there is no sugar-coating it. LSU fans are hopping mad.”

LSU (5-3, 2-3) is idle this week, and plays at Alabama on Nov. 8.
