Paul Finebaum dissects surprising SEC game as potential defining matchup in Week 9
Paul Finebaum joins Matt Barrie every Sunday morning for the Matt Barrie Show. The pair discuss each weekend’s college football action and break down the biggest storylines.
This Sunday was no different as Finebaum and Barrie broke down a wild Week 8 slate. One of Finebaum’s biggest takeaways was the Week 9 matchup between No. 8 LSU and No. 14 Texas A&M, which is now one of the most anticipated of the year. The Tigers enter the game at 3-0 in SEC play while the Aggies are 4-0 in conference matchups.
“I didn’t anticipate LSU-Texas A&M being the defining game of next Saturday,” said Finebaum. “The slate is not exactly overwhelming, but it’s a moment in time for A&M that they’re pretty well situated.”
The winner of this game will assumedly be set up well to make the new expanded Playoff. The Tigers still have ranked matchups against Alabama and Vanderbilt on the schedule, while Texas is the lone ranked team the Aggies will play after Week 9.
Finebaum mentioned that A&M seems to be in a much better place under head coach Mike Elko than they were a year ago.
“It’s really amazing to be out there (in College Station) recently versus a year ago with the Jimbo Fisher clown show going on,” the analyst said.
However, Finebaum also likes what he’s seen from Brian Kelly and this LSU team.
“I’m pretty high on them (LSU),” said Finebaum. “He’s (Brian Kelly) had to navigate a lot and I like that about this program.”
These SEC rivals will kick off from Kyle Field on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
