Paul Finebaum downplays concerns for expanded playoff following National Championship blowout

Georgia did unspeakable things to TCU Monday night. The Bulldogs officially repeated as national champions in a game that can only loosely be described as football, winning 65-7. The evening was competitive for about 2 minutes in the 1st quarter.
Paul Finebaum appeared on ESPN’s “Get Up” Tuesday morning to discuss the above blowout. Many stated that TCU simply did not belong last night and wondered out loud whether or not the idea of an expanded playoff is worth it if the same dominant result keeps happening.
It does seem like every year there is at least one team that is simply vastly outmatched. Will more blowouts like this happen in the future?
Finebaum thinks not. He explained his thinking on the show:
โI think itโs an outlier,โ Finebaum said about Mondayโs title game blowout. โWe had two great semifinal games, we had a horrible โ horrible doesnโt even begin to describe what we saw last night โ it wouldโve been worse last night if Georgia hadnโt missed an extra point at the end.
โThe point is that the 12-team Playoff, I think, is going to be the most exciting thing weโve seen in college football. So, everyone wants to blast TCU and blast the committee and dunk on poor Heather (Dinich). The bottom line is Alabama lost 2 games. If Alabama hadnโt lost to LSU, they wouldโve been in the Playoff. Itโs not the committeeโs fault, itโs Alabamaโs fault.โ
The CFP will expand to 12 teams in the very near future, scheduled now for the 2024-25 season. In the meantime, is there anyone who can dethrone No. 1 Georgia?
