Paul Finebaum explains why he’s a believer in Miami after strong start to 2025 season
One of the more difficult things to accomplish in college football is to earn the praise of ESPN’s Paul Finebaum. The longtime journalist and college football analyst is notably critical of virtually every program he talks about, and the Miami Hurricanes have certainly fit into that category during past years.
But now, following a 4-0 start that featured wins over Notre Dame, South Florida and Florida, Finebaum is willing to jump on the Mario Cristobal bandwagon, and he delved into that stance during SportsCenter’s ‘Paul in or Paul out’ segment on Sunday morning.
“I was leaving an airport last night and was seeing ‘The U’ signals everywhere,” Finebaum said. “This is for real, it’s not like the turnover chain from 6-7 years ago where it was a false alarm. When you can win against Florida and not play your A-game, you’re looking really good for the rest of your run.”
Finebaum applauded the Hurricanes for throwing it back to the 80s with this recent surge, joking that he’s still wearing the same clothes he did back then.
He also went on to claim that the Miami-Florida State game(s) may be all the nation needs to see when it comes to the ACC title race.
“How about Miami and Florida State later on for maybe the ACC Championship Game?” Finebaum said.
Miami and FSU will face off in Tallahassee on Oct. 4.
