Paul Finebaum lists just 2 SEC teams as Playoff locks coming out of Week 7

Paul Finebaum was asked a very complicated question during his weekly Monday morning visit on the “McElroy and Cubelic in the Morning” show. So, naturally, the ESPN college football analyst gave a somewhat complicated answer.

The guys asked Finebaum how he felt about certain SEC teams making the inaugural 12-team College Football Playoff, outside of top-ranked Texas, which at this point seems to be in good shape to make the field barring a collapse in the latter part of the season.

“After (Texas), the only one I think I would feel really comfortable saying is automatic is Georgia, and even though I know the Georgia path is complicated, I still feel like that club is capable,” said Finebaum.

But what about after No. 5 Georgia, which just happens to be at Texas on Saturday night in what should be an epic SEC showdown? Finebaum shed some light on that, or he tried to.

“Then you get into that logjam of Texas A&M, LSU now, Alabama, Tennessee, Ole Miss kind of at the bottom of that. And every week will help determine,” said Finebaum.

Finebaum believes if No. 7 Alabama can figure things out on Saturday and win at No. 11 Tennessee, then the Crimson Tide’s Playoff path will be that much smoother.

“If Alabama wins this weekend, and they are favored, I think they’re in a tremendously good position,” said Finebaum. “But that’s why this game was always so important, especially if Alabama had a loss going in.”

Of course, the Crimson Tide do have a loss heading into Knoxville, with Vanderbilt doing the deed in Week 6 in Nashville.
