Paul Finebaum isn’t sugar-coating things in the wake of Alabama’s shocking loss to Vanderbilt on Saturday.

Finebaum spoke about the loss while appearing on The Matt Barrie show on Sunday morning. He said it’s the worst loss he can remember from a “quality” Alabama team.

“Nick Saban would’ve never lost that game, never did lose that game,” Finebaum said. “And Matt, people talk about the La Monroe game in ’07. [Saban] inherited a 6-7 team that was .500. This was the worst loss I have ever seen by a quality Alabama team. I’ve seen bad Alabama teams lose … but I’ve never seen a great Alabama team lose like this.

“It is sending shockwaves through the Alabama ecosystem right now because, for all the good we felt a week ago, the questions that were lingering deep in the crevices of Alabama fans’ minds are starting to pop up. And people are reminding us that, even at Washington, you saw these very bizarre calls [by Kalen DeBoer] … There were other games that Washington barely escaped.”

Questions will certainly be asked of DeBoer throughout this week. This is the first time Alabama has lost to Vanderbilt since 1984. The Commodores hadn’t even held a lead over Alabama in a game since 2006 before Saturday.

Alabama will host South Carolina in Week 7.
