Paul Finebaum: Ryan Williams had ‘some of the greatest moves I’ve ever seen’ vs. Georgia
Paul Finebaum has been around the college football world for a long time. That makes it even crazier that Finebaum couldn’t believe what he saw in the Georgia-Alabama game on Saturday night.
Alabama controlled the 1st half of this game. The Tide took a 30-7 lead into halftime, but the Bulldogs came alive in the 2nd half. Kirby Smart’s team took a 34-33 lead late in the 4th quarter, and it seemed like the Tide were going to blow the game after dominating earlier.
Instead, 17-year-old WR Ryan Williams made one of the best plays of the season. Williams caught a pass and took it for a 75-yard score to put the Tide ahead once again. Williams demonstrated incredible body control and speed on the run, with Finebaum not believing his eyes.
“That’s some of the greatest moves I’ve ever seen on one single play,” Finebaum said of Williams’ play.
Matt Barrie then mentioned the history of elite receivers Alabama has produced, and how Williams is the youngest and could end up being the best.
“This kid is the youngest, and he’s already doing THIS,” said Barrie. “I mean, it’s frightening.”
Williams caught 6 passes for 177 yards and a touchdown in the Week 5 game. No other pass-catcher on the team had more than 38 receiving yards, showing Williams’ dominance.
So far in his true freshman season, Williams has 16 catches for 462 yards and 5 TDs. On his current pace, Williams could go on to have one of the most legendary freshman WR seasons in college football history.
The next test for the Tide will come in Week 6 against the Vanderbilt Commodores.
