Paul Finebaum weighs in on whether Texas will make CFP after win over Vandy

The Texas Longhorns are sure to vault up the polls after their 34-31 victory over No. 9 Vanderbilt in Week 10. But how much will Texas improve – and will it be enough to consider the Longhorns for a College Football Playoff berth?
That was the question posed to ESPN pundit Paul Finebaum on Sunday’s SportsCenter “Paul In, Paul Out” segment – and Finebaum simply doesn’t see a way for Texas (7-2 overall, 4-1 SEC) to navigate the remainder of a very difficult schedule without absorbing another loss.
“They have made a nice comeback and (quarterback) Arch (Manning) is looking very good, but their schedule is daunting,” Finebaum said. “Remember, they still have to go to Georgia, they’re a Top 5 team, and they have to deal with Texas A&M on the final Friday of the regular season.
“I don’t think they can get through both, and I think their playoff hopes will end somewhere very soon.”
The good news for Texas is that the Longhorns are idle in Week 11, giving them an extra week to prepare for a trip to Athens and 5th-ranked Georgia on Nov. 15. The annual grudge match against No. 3 Texas A&M is set for Nov. 28, with a home game for the Longhorns against Arkansas wedged in between.
