If you missed the big news from Baton Rouge on Friday, long-time baseball coach Paul Mainieri is retiring at the end of the season. This news comes after LSU was eliminated in the first round of the 2021 SEC Tournament.
The 63-year-old Mainieri has been leading the LSU program for 15 years and has more wins than any other active NCAA Division I coach. The two-time SEC Coach of the Year led LSU to the national title in 2009 and nearly did so again in 2017 but the Tigers lost to Florida in the national championship to finish as national runners-up.
Interestingly, the coach that beat LSU is reportedly among the candidates to replace Mainieri in Baton Rouge. That’s according to Glenn Guilbeau

Among the candidates LSU is considering to replace Mainieri is Florida coach Kevin O’Sullivan, who beat LSU to win the 2017 national title.
That would certainly be a big-time hire for the Tigers, who are currently searching for a replacement for a coaching legend.
If anyone could pull this move off, it would be current LSU AD Scott Woodward who has hired the likes of Steve Sarkisian and Chris Petersen at Washington and Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M.
