Payton Thorne and the Auburn Tigers did a number of good things on Saturday against Oklahoma, but mistakes late cost the team as the Sooners escaped with the 27-21 victory.

Thorne had arguably his best game as the quarterback at Auburn, as he finished 21-of-32 for 338 yards and 3 touchdowns. However, it was the 1 interception that gave the Sooners the lead for good with just over 4 minutes remaining.

Despite the good in the game, Thorne talked about the frustration of consistently having to find silver linings amid losses.

“You know, we played well for the most part,” Thorne told reporters after the game. “After a while, you get tired of silver linings, to be honest with you. It gets old and guys don’t want to hear that. We are all competitors in there are the end of the day, you only want to hear that so much. You get tired of it after a while, and it is time to win.”

Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze backed up his quarterback after the interception, saying he needed to put Thorne in a better position late. The Tigers were trying to run the clock out with the lead and set up a field goal that would have pushed their lead to 8. Instead, they fell behind on the scoreboard for the first time in the second half.

Thorne and the Tigers don’t have any time to sulk about the game, because they have to hit the road in Week 6 and take on the Georgia Bulldogs.
