Steve Sarkisian and Lane Kiffin both recently made comments about Ole Miss, putting Oxford and the Rebels into the national spotlight for a few weeks during the offseason.
The nature of those comments was different. Sarkisian mentioned that Texas has a higher academic standard, which gives Ole Miss an advantage of sorts in recruiting. Sarkisian later noted that his word choice may have been flawed.
As for Kiffin, the former Ole Miss coach noted that recruiting was actually sometimes more difficult at Ole Miss because of the history of the Ole Miss name, mascot and name “Rebels,” which didn’t sit well with the parents of some recruits, he told Vanity Fair.
This week while speaking at the SEC spring meetings in Florida, Ole Miss head coach Pete Golding was asked about the comments made by both coaches. He insisted that both coaches have reached out to him, noting that Sarkisian reached out almost immediately and that his quote was taken out of “context.” As for Kiffin, Golding insisted he gets”12 text messages a day” from the former Ole Miss head coach.
In other words, as expected, there’s no bad blood pertaining to the comments between the parties.
