Pete Golding says he never considered leaving Ole Miss, following Lane Kiffin

When LSU hired Lane Kiffin away from Ole Miss, many wondered whether Pete Golding would follow his boss to Baton Rouge. Golding said he never gave it any thought.
Golding addressed the topic when speaking to SEC insider Chris Low of On3.
โThatโs not why I came here,” Golding told Low. “This had been going on for two years, whether Lane was going to leave, even the Florida talk the year before. I was like, โHey bro, I Iove you, but donโt get it twisted. I didnโt come here for you.โโ

It may turn a few heads that Golding mentions “the Florida talk the year before.” Though Billy Napier was on the hot seat, the Florida job did not come open during the 2024 season. Ironically, it was an upset win over Kiffin and Golding’s Ole Miss squad that helped Napier keep his job and return for 2025.
It’s no surprise that Golding stayed at Ole Miss, as he was named the full-time head coach shortly following Kiffin’s departure. He began his tenure by leading the Rebels to their first 2 College Football Playoff wins before a loss to Miami.
