Pete Thamel shares big update on LSU’s Caden Durham ahead of Ole Miss game
Pete Thamel shed some important light on the status of LSU leading rusher Caden Durham for Saturday’s SEC showdown at Ole Miss, reporting on Friday that Durham is considered doubtful for the 3:30 p.m. ET kickoff on ABC.
The ESPN report by Thamel would be a huge blow for the 4th-ranked Tigers as they try to stay unbeaten in Oxford against the 13th-ranked Rebels. Durham is a sophomore who is leading LSU in rushing through 4 games with 213 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Durham looked to be continuing his dominance in the backfield this fall after quite a freshman season in 2024, when he piled up 753 yards, averaging 5.4 yards per carry with 6 touchdowns. He also had 260 yards receiving and 2 touchdown catches last fall.
But amid a phenomenal start this fall for the 4-0 Tigers, Durham injured his ankle last week in the rout of SE Louisiana and according to Thamel is unlikely to play on Saturday in Oxford.
With the game on the road and with Durham’s status heavily in question, ESPN’s FPI is only giving LSU a 26.7% chance to prevail at Ole Miss on Saturday. Like LSU, the Rebels are 4-0 and are 2-0 in the SEC going into the Week 5 showdown.
