Peter Burns had a terrifying experience on Friday night.

The SEC Network anchor and radio host was having dinner in Columbia, Missouri, when he started to choke on a piece of food. Burns mentioned that he immediately knew it was a serious situation and motioned for his friend to give him the Heimlich Maneuver.

After Burns’ friend and 2 others unsuccessfully tried to dislodge the piece of food, Burns noted that he started to lose his vision and began to black out.

Luckily, a local man named Jack Foster stepped in and was able to successfully perform the maneuver on Burns.

Foster later told Burns that he is a youth sports coach and had recently completed CPR training.

Burns posted a thread on social media detailing the event but also took time to talk about the ordeal on his radio show.

Holding back tears, Burns thanked Foster for saving his life.

“Jack, thank you. Thank you for everything,” Burns said. “It’s just a moment where you don’t take things for granted.”

Thankfully, Burns is okay and appears to have made a new friend in the process.

Burns and the SEC Network crew were in Columbia for the matchup between No. 7 Missouri and Boston College. The Tigers would go on to win 27-21 and maintain their perfect record.
