Peyton Lewis runs angry. Colton Hood has great hands. Tennessee is up 17-0 over Syracuse early.
Let’s start with the sophomore Vols running back, who scored Tennessee’s first touchdown of the 2025 season against Syracuse, increasing Tennessee’s lead to 10-0.
The Vols marched down the field following a good stop on defense and an opening drive that culminated in a Vols field goal. Lewis got the entirety of the carries on Tennessee’s second drive after DeSean Bishop ate the carries on the first drive.
Here’s a look at Lewis’ touchdown:
The following drive was not as pretty for Tennessee. Joey Aguilar and Star Thomas couldn’t agree on the mesh, leading to a fumble and Tennessee turnover. No big deal though, because the Vols got the ball right back after Nathan Robinson forced the ball out of Syracuse quarterback Steve Angeli’s hands. The ball bounced a bit towards the sideline before Colorado transfer Colton Hood scooped it up in stride and took it for 6.
Hood is starting in place of All-SEC cornerback Jermod McCoy, who will miss the first few games of the Vols’ season after tearing his ACL at the start of this year. Hood sat behind Colorado star Travis Hunter last season.
Tennessee now leads 17-0 in what has been a dominant start for the Vols.
