Peyton Manning jokes about reason he returned for senior season at Tennessee

Peyton and Eli Manning recently had Pat McAfee on their alternate broadcast of Monday Night Football. Peyton recently returned the favor, appearing on McAfee’s alternate broadcast of the Clemson-NC State game Saturday night.
These broadcasts have become known for featuring some good-natured ribbing. In a clip shared on Twitter, McAfee brought up Manning being a slow runner. Noting that Clemson QB DJ Uiagalelei lost weight to improve his quickness, McAfee joked that Manning might have needed to lose a limb to improve his quickness.
Manning followed by joking that his return to Tennessee in 1997 was motivated by his rushing stats. Sacks take away from a quarterback’s net rushing yards, and Manning did not want to finish in the negatives.
It didn’t quite work out that way for Manning. In 1997, stats show Manning had 49 “rushes” for minus-30 yards and 3 touchdowns. It was, at least, a noted improvement over minus-131 yards in 1996.
Manning was no dual-threat, but college football fans will always remember him for the numerous passing accomplishments in his 4 years on Rocky Top.
“In College sacks count against your rushing yards.. the main reason I went back for my senior year was to try & get out of the red” ~Peyton Manning
