Phil Simms has been around the game of football for nearly 50 years, both as a player and as a broadcaster. After an outstanding 15-year playing career in which he won a Super Bowl, he began his broadcasting career at NBC Sports in 1995.
On Tuesday, it was announced that Simms would be returning to the network to be an in-game analyst for a few B1G games during this upcoming season.
His first game that he will be on the call will be on Aug. 29 when Illinois takes on Western Illinois with the game being on Peacock. He will be back in the booth the following week as well when Rutgers takes on Miami (OH), with a third game being determined later in the season.
Simms will be on the broadcast with play-by-play voice Paul Burmeiester, someone that Simms said he has a great working relationship with.
“I am very happy to be working again for NBC Sports doing college football games. I have had a great relationship with Paul Burmeister over many years so I know it going to be fun and exciting to work with him,” Simms said in a statement. “I appreciate NBC for giving me this opportunity and I can’t wait for the college football season to start.”

Simms spent the majority of his broadcasting career at CBS, where he called games from 1998 to 2023. During that time, he called multiple Super Bowls, and he transitioned to a studio analyst when Tony Romo joined CBS.
It is a family reunion of sorts for Simms, as his son Chris also has a prominent role at NBC Sports. Chris is a B1G analyst at NBC, while also being an NFL analyst for Football Night in America on Sunday nights.
