Tennessee is looking to get its program back to an elite level. And although the Vols are 2-3 to start the season, athletic director Phillip Fulmer remains supportive of coach Jeremy Pruitt.
Fulmer shared his thoughts on Pruitt when speaking at the Knoxville Quarterback Club on Monday.
“He’s doing exactly what he needs to be doing,” Fulmer said, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel. “I can say with certainty that we have got us a heckuva football coach. I’m absolutely certain.”
All three of Tennessee’s losses this season have been against teams that are currently ranked — No. 9 West Virginia, No. 22 Florida and No. 2 Georgia.
Fulmer is also supportive of Pruitt’s coaching style.
“He pushes the kids,” Fulmer said, per the Knoxville News Sentinel. “They’ll be better men because of him, not just better football players.”
After this week’s bye, Tennessee faces another challenging opponent when it travels to No. 8 Auburn on Oct. 13.
