Former Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer’s mother, Nannie Lee Fulmer, died Sunday at the age of 91 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease, according to the Knoxville News Sentinel.
Jim Cortner, funeral director at Moore-Cortner Funeral Home in Winchester, told the newspaper that Mrs. Fulmer passed away at the NHC Healthcare in Tullahoma.
Tennessee coach Butch Jones began his press conference Monday by sending his condolences to the Fulmer family.
“I just want to let him know we’re thinking about him,” Jones said.
Phillip Fulmer was Tennessee’s head coach from 1993-2008 and interim coach during the team’s first three games of the 1992 season. He went 152-52-1 during his tenure with the program, which included a national championship in 1998, two SEC championships (1997, 1998) and six SEC East division titles (1997, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007).
Fulmer was also an offensive guard for the Vols from 1968-71.
