Georgia advanced to the National Championship Game after taking down Oklahoma, and that game will be played in Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Playing for a national championship in their home state will be an awesome experience for the Bulldogs, but will the game actually present a sort of homefield advantage for Georgia? After all, Alabama does not have far to travel, and Tide fans will more than likely show up in full force to the championship game.

While playing close to home is a neat storyline and a topic that is sure to be discussed multiple times ahead of Monday’s championship, it seems that playing in your home state does not mean there will be any sort of advantage.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, the Bulldogs will be the seventh team since the beginning of the BCS to play for a championship in their home state. The first six teams to do so have gone 3-3:

Will Georgia be able to make that record 4-3?
