Week 1 was a wild one around college football, with some incredible games and surprising results.

One such surprising result took place in Gainesville, where the Florida Gators took down No. 7 Utah, potentially ending the Utes’ hopes of making the College Football Playoff.

Elsewhere, No. 11 Oregon was trounced by reigning champion Georgia by a lopsided 49-3 score. That effectively ends the Ducks’ CFP dreams, too.

The only other ranked team in the Pac-12 heading into the 2022 campaign was USC, which checked in at No. 14 in the preseason AP Poll. The Trojans took down Rice 66-14 in Lincoln Riley’s LA debut, but tougher tests loom large.

So, is the Pac-12 already eliminated from Playoff contention? At this point, it could come down to the Trojans and how long they can remain unbeaten.

Even with the USC opportunity looming, many fans and media members are ready to call it a year and bury the Pac-12’s CFP dreams:

Can USC make a run and shock the college football world? Will Utah be able to get some help and get back in the mix?

We’ll see what happens as the 2022 season wears on, but Week 1 certainly didn’t go well for Pac-12 squads trying to score signature wins to impress the Playoff committee.
