Purdue football has named a new head coach following the departure of Jeff Brohm to Louisville. Ryan Walters, Illinois’s former DC who led the Illini defense to its best season since 2007, was named Purdue’s head coach Tuesday morning.
Walters is 36 years old and has no previous head coaching experience, though he has travelled across the country in multiple positions as an assistant.

Walters played college ball at Colorado, staying with the Buffaloes as an assistant. He moved on to Arizona as a graduate assistant, Oklahoma as a graduate assistant and made a myriad of stops in North Texas, Mizzou, Memphis and finally Illinois as defensive coordinator.
The Boilermakers recently reached the B1G Title game against Michigan, losing to the eventual CFP members.
