President Donald Trump signs executive order regarding Army-Navy game amid CFP expansion talk
College Football Playoff expansion talks have become a point of contention now that the season is approaching its conclusion, and such conversations have threatened some of the sport’s most time-honored traditions.
Exemplifying that are the rumored possibilities that play-in games for a 16-team CFP could fall on the same December Saturday as the annual Army-Navy Game, which has caused pushback from many.
But perhaps the ultimate form of rebuttal came when President Donald Trump announced that he will be signing an executive order that grant’s the storied rivalry an exclusive 4-hour time slot every year, barring any other FBS games from being fielded at that time.
The Army-Navy Game generally takes up the usual 3/3:30 ET CBS window, which could allow for CFP play-in games to take place at night or in the morning. Still, Trump’s order would greatly limit the playoff’s ability to be started that day, and thus creates a sizable barrier in that occurring.
Trump’s affinity for the Army-Navy Game has been well-documented, with him notably having taken to midfield for the ceremonial coin toss during the 2025 edition of the rivalry.
Through 126 total meetings, Navy currently leads the all-time series with a 64-55-7 advantage.
