They’re already calling it the “Tega Toss,” and Auburn is enjoying its result.
Auburn RB D.J. Williams was credited with a one-yard touchdown run late in the first half during the 20-14 win over Ole Miss on Saturday. But it was OL Prince Tega Wanogho who did the heavy lifting — literally. Wanogho picked Williams up and hoisted him over the goal line for the score.
“I feel like they should give (the touchdown) to me,” he told reporters after the game, including Jeff Shearer of AuburnTigers.com. “(He’s got the ball) and I’ve got him, so that’s technically my touchdown right there.”
Wanogho said his instinct was when he saw Williams to just pull him over the goal line any way possible. But he didn’t mean to slam Williams, he said with a laugh. Wanogho even apologized to his teammate after the play.
“I got to do what I got to do, we got seven points on the board,” he said.
It was Williams’ first Auburn touchdown, and he figured it was someone else who picked him up.
“We got points, that’s all that matters,” he said.
Did you say anything to him afterwards?
“Thank you, definitely thank you,” Williams said.
