Purdue announces special recognition of super fan Tyler Trent ahead of Vanderbilt game

Purdue superfan Tyler Trent captured the hearts of many college football fans last season as his cancer fight gained publicity alongside his rooting of his beloved Boilermakers.
Trent lost his battle in early January, but not before he shared personal stories about his dreams and love of all things Purdue. Trent attended Purdue in the fall of 2017, and was remembered for camping out with another student to get good seats to a Purdue football game, just hours after chemotherapy.
He wrote a guest column in the Indianapolis Star, and struck up friendships with several sports personalities, most notably ESPN anchor Scott Van Pelt.
Trent later became a team captain for the Purdue team, and was in the stadium in a wheelchair the night the Boilermakers knocked off No. 2 Ohio State last season.
This season, Purdue President Mitch Daniels said that a student gate will be dedicated at the Purdue home opener against Vanderbilt on Sept. 7. Daniels added there will be a “significant event” about 30 minutes before gates open, according to a report from Trevor Peters of WLFI.
