Quinn Ewers and Texas avenged their loss to Oklahoma in last year’s Red River Rivalry, coming away with a 34-3 blowout win over the Sooners at the Cotton Bowl on Saturday.
Up next for the Longhorns: a return to Austin as they face Georgia in a potential top 5 matchup at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium, just the sixth meeting between the 2 programs on the gridiron and one that will go a long way in helping decide who could finish atop the SEC. The Longhorns will also be looking to remain perfect on the season.
That means the celebratory mood won’t last long for the Longhorns before they get back to business.
“We’re going to enjoy this on the ride back (to Austin), have 12 hours or so, and then it’s on to the next,” Ewers said. “Where we want to be at the end of the season, we’re going to have to continue to get better. That’s what championship teams do.”
Ewers wasn’t at his best to start the contest — throwing an early interception — but recovered to finish 20-of-29 for 199 yards and a touchdown. He also ended the day with a score on the ground.
“Adversity’s gonna strike, and at the end of the day, it’s how you come back and it’s how you respond,” Ewers said. “It’s 10 percent what happens to you and 90 percent how you react.”
