Quinn Ewers is set to have a precautionary MRI before No. 3 Texas’ much-anticipated SEC rivalry game against the No. 15 Texas A&M Aggies, according to a report from program insider Anwar Richardson.
“Texas QB Quinn Ewers will undergo a precautionary MRI on Sunday after injuring his ankle against Kentucky, according to my sources,” he posted to “X”, formerly known as Twitter. “Everyone close to the situation is cautiously optimistic Ewers does not have any structural damage and will only need ankle treatments this week.”

Ewers went down with an apparent ankle injury during the first half on what was described by head coach Steve Sarkisian to be a hip drop tackle. Those are not allowed in today’s NFL and the dangerous effects are obvious by the way Ewers hobbled around for the rest of the time after that, showing grit while refusing to leave, though.
He finished out the 31-14 win over Kentucky, going 20-for-31 passing for 191 yards with 2 touchdowns on an interception-free outing.
Texas and Texas A&M are set to kick off on Saturday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. ET in College Station. This game will have College Football Playoff implications as Texas looks to maintain a high seed in the rankings through the finale of the 2024 regular season.
It will also be interesting to watch how Ewers performs, once touted as potentially the best quarterback in the nation before he saw his draft stock go up and down due to injury and inconsistent play.
