Fans and media members know to take many college football players’ tweets with a massive grain of salt. It appears, however, injured Alabama LB Terrell Lewis wasn’t blowing smoke when he recently teased a possible return for the SEC Championship Game.
Less than five months after tearing his ACL in July, Lewis practiced on Monday. If that sounds unbelievable, considering ACL injuries were long considered 12-month recoveries, you’re not alone. Alabama DL Quinnen Williams called it a shock to see Lewis back out on the practice field and working with the defense Monday.
Quinnen Williams on Terrell Lewis being back at practice yesterday: “It was a shock for me. … But just seeing how hard he worked in the offseason, seeing how much passion he had on the sideline and stuff like that, it’s just great to see him back on his feet in general.”

Lewis’ last game was the national championship win over Georgia. Saturday’s SEC Championship Game is a Crimson Tide-Bulldogs rematch. Lewis tweeted Sunday, “Debating if I should pick up where I left off…” with a photo of the January Alabama-Georgia game. LB Mack Brown also tweeted about having a “surprise this weekend” that many speculated was a reference to Lewis possibly returning.
Practicing would certainly appear to be a big step in the direction of a return that seemed incredibly unlikely until recently.
