There was no chance Oakland was going to let Amari Cooper walk away from the franchise after his fourth season with the Raiders. Now that line of thought is official as the Raiders announced the team has exercised the fifth-year option in Cooper’s rookie contract on Monday.
Monday was the first day that NFL teams could exercise fifth-year options on players selected in the 2015 NFL Draft. While Cooper has only played three seasons in the NFL, teams have the option to extend rookie contracts by one season after the first three seasons of the original deal.
Cooper has been one of the NFL’s best receivers since entering the league in 2015, hauling in 203 catches for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns in just 46 games of play.
If you own a Raiders No. 89 jersey, safe to say that investment will be good for another two seasons at least following this news.
