Alabama defeated Georgia 24-21 on Saturday night in Athens.
This was Alabama‘s third consecutive win over UGA in Athens, but the first since 2015. Alabama has also won 10 of the last 11 games in this series overall.
The Crimson Tide were aggressive offensively early in this contest, scoring 24 points before halftime. They didn’t find the scoreboard at all after the break, but it was still enough to pull off this big victory.
Despite not scoring in the second half, Alabama’s offense still contributed. Notably, Ty Simpson converted a crucial third-and-5 in the game’s final 2 minutes to essentially seal the result for Alabama.
Third down conversions were a huge reason why Alabama won this game. The Tide went 13-of-19 on third down, allowing them to possess the ball for more than 35 minutes of game time despite averaging under 5 yards per play on the night.
Simpson threw for 276 yards and 2 touchdowns in the win.
Alabama now has a 45-26-4 lead vs. Georgia in the all-time series.
