Rapid Reaction: Mizzou triumphs over Kansas in return of Border War rivalry
Missouri defeated Kansas 35-31 in what was a wild affair on Saturday afternoon in Columbia.
The return of the Border War did not disappoint. Mizzou jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but then trailed 21-6 before the end of the first quarter. However, Mizzou managed to dominate the rest of the game. The Tigers scored 15 unanswered points in the fourth quarter and then were dominant in the second half.
After the break, Mizzou out-scored the Jayhawks 21-10. KU managed to get a first down on only two of its first four drives in the second half. Missouri, meanwhile, was able to control the ball for long stretches of play. Mizzou had three drives in the second half that were 10+ plays apiece. Another drive was just 3 plays, but that’s because the final action was a 63-yard touchdown run by Jamal Roberts to ice the game.
Quarterback Beau Pribula put up outstanding numbers as a passer. He completed 30-of-39 passes for 334 yards and 3 touchdowns. Mizzou’s running back tandem of Roberts and Ahmad Hardy were both excellent — each cleared the century mark in the game.
Mizzou’s defense had a great game overall despite KU’s 31 points. The Jayhawks averaged just 5.4 yards per play on the afternoon.
Missouri has now won 4 consecutive games in this series.
