Dae’Quan Wright leaked out of the backfield, LSU didn’t follow, and Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss found him with an easy pitch-and-catch down the left sideline. Wright ran to the LSU 15 before taking a seat on the deck. Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin exploded with emotion on the sideline and the offense set up in the victory formation.
Following a 24-19 win over No. 4 LSU (4-1, 1-1 SEC), the 13th-ranked Rebels are 5-0 to begin the 2025 season. They’re 3-0 to open their SEC slate. After losing so much from last year’s 10-win team, Ole Miss might be better.
If nothing else, Ole Miss hasn’t gone anywhere.
Prior to Kiffin’s arrival in 2020, Ole Miss opened a season 5-0 just one time this century. Kiffin has now done it twice in the last 3 years. And Saturday’s victory felt like a sign that more is on the table.
Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, making his third straight start for the Rebels, threw for 314 yards, ran for another 71, and scored a touchdown to lead his team to victory. Since taking over for the injured Austin Simmons, Chambliss has at least 300 passing and 60 rushing yards in every game.
The Tigers simply could not match the Ole Miss offensive output. The Tigers found a touchdown on just 1 of their first 7 possessions. They opened the game with a 3-and-out and threw a pick on the third drive. LSU managed just 254 yards of total offense.
Without starting running back Caden Durham, the run game sputtered. LSU finished with 57 rushing yards on 22 carries. And quarterback Garrett Nussmeier, a preseason Heisman Trophy favorite, went 21-for-34 for 197 yards with a touchdown and a pick.
In 4 games against FBS competition this season, LSU has managed more than 20 points only once. The Tigers have a bye week next week to try and sort their offense out. They’ll face South Carolina on Oct. 11.
The Rebels get a bye week next week before hosting Washington State at home on Oct. 11.
