Rapid Reaction: Tennessee thumps UAB as offense continues to roll
Tennessee topped 500 yards of offense for the second time in 4 games to begin the 2025 season, thumping UAB on Saturday, 56-24.
The 15th-ranked Volunteers (3-1) responded to last week’s heartbreaking loss to Georgia by outscoring the Blazers 21-0 in the opening quarter. Quarterback Joey Aguilar completed 9 of his first 12 passes for 148 yards and 2 scores through the air in the opening 15 minutes as the Vol offense averaged 9.8 yards per play.
Tennessee wasn’t quite as explosive in the second quarter (5.6 yards per play) but it was just as potent, putting another 21 points on the board. The Vols went into the half leading 42-7 after scoring touchdowns on 6 of their 7 first-half possessions.
Maybe Trent Dilfer was doing some last-second web scrolling to figure out how to slow down the Tennessee offense. UAB had no answer. And the game was over at the half.
Tennessee has opened the season with at least 40 points and at least 490 yards of offense in each of its first 4 games. It’s the first time in modern program history that Tennessee has scored at least 40 points in each of its first 4 games of a single season.
The Vols return to conference play next week when they travel to Starkville to face Mississippi State.
