Rapid Reaction: Texas A&M beats UTSA behind 4 TDs from Marcel Reed
Texas A&M opened the new season with a 42-24 win over UTSA on Saturday night.
To call the 18-point victory comfortable would be a little disingenuous. After a 75-yard rushing touchdown on the opening play of the second half, UTSA found itself trailing by just 4 points in College Station. But No. 19 Texas A&M scored 21 unanswered to close out the third and begin the fourth. Aggie quarterback Marcel Reed tossed 2 of his 4 touchdowns during that stretch to power A&M to the win.
Reed completed 22 of his 34 pass attempts on the evening. He threw for 289 yards and ran for another 39 yards. His 4 touchdown passes set a new career high.
Mario Craver was on the receiving end of 2 of those strikes. The Mississippi State transfer receiver caught 8 of his 10 targets for 122 yards in the game — one of several transfers who had an outsized impact on the game.
A&M only had 108 rushing yards in the game, but it didn’t really try to get the rushing attack going. The 23 team rushing attempts were the fewest in a game by a Texas A&M team since 2022.
The Aggies host Utah State next Saturday at 12:45 p.m. ET on SEC Network
