Marcel Reed posted twice as many yards in one quarter as Samford quarterback Quincy Crittendon did all game. That’s a pretty good summary of how things went, as expected, in College Station in Week 13.
The Texas A&M Aggies are now 11-0 on the season and await an all-important matchup against Texas in Rivalry Week after beating Samford, 48-0. The Bulldogs posted just 3 first downs and fared 0-14 on 3rd down, putting up just 77 yards of total offense. Apart from playing a fairly clean game, Samford wasn’t able to get anything going all afternoon.
Reed entered the week with the fourth-shortest Heisman odds and passed for 120 yards Saturday. He now has 2,752 passing yards this season as he tries to become the first Aggies QB since Kellen Mond (3,107 in 2018) to throw for 3,000 yards. Just 248 to go!
If we absolutely had to nitpick, Texas A&M’s quarterback play after Reed exited was… not great. Brady Hart, Jacob Zeno and Miles O’Neill all got some run, combining to complete 10 of their 22 passing attempts for 108 yards. Hart had the best afternoon of the 3, completing 5 of his 9 passes for 62 yards.
The Aggies run game, on the other hand, got whatever it wanted all afternoon. Senior running back Amari Daniels posted a career-high 106 rushing yards with 1 touchdown. Peyton Landis and Tiger Riden Jr. each found the end zone on the ground as well.
As far as receivers are concerned, freshman Ashton Bethel-Roman had the most impressive outing. He caught 2 of Reed’s 3 touchdowns and totaled a game-high 61 receiving yards. KC Concepcion also found the end zone and has now scored in 4 of Texas A&M’s last 5 games.
Week 14 is going to be a battle, Aggies fans. Texas A&M at Texas is set to kick off next Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET/6:30 CT on ABC.
