When former Tennessee DB Rashaan Gaulden takes the field for the Carolina Panthers this summer, he’ll see a familiar face — former Tennessee assistant coach Brady Hoke.

Hoke, who also served as the Volunteers’ interim coach after Butch Jones was fired, wasn’t retained by new coach Jeremy Pruitt and ended up in Carolina on Ron Rivera’s staff heading into the 2018 season.

Gaulden recently discussed pairing up with Hoke again, and said he’s excited to see someone who he respects (via 247Sports):

“This game is all about relationships,” Gaulden said. “Coach Hoke, his first week (at Tennessee), for some reason, we just hit it off. Right away he just came up to me and said, ‘Bro, you play this game hard and the way you need to play it.’ Through that, I was able to meet his wife, Mrs. Hoke, and she was so awesome. You never know where you’ll end up and being here on the same team as Coach Hoke, God makes no mistakes, so it’s pretty awesome.”

Hoke coaches defensive linemen, so he won’t be working directly with Gaulden, but still, it’ll be nice for the two former Vols to reconnect.
