RB Kam Martin addresses future at Auburn: My time is coming

The Auburn Tigers will have to replace star RB Kerryon Johnson next season, but RB Kam Martin indicated he has no plans to transfer and will remain with the Tigers.
Martin’s performance as a freshman in 2016 and his early work in 2017 gave indication that the Tigers may use Martin in a big role, but that never materialized. Johnson, who announced his decision to enter the NFL Draft Tuesday, stole the show once healthy and went on to win the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award this season.
Following the Peach Bowl loss to UCF, Martin addressed whether or not he planned to leave the program. Martin indicated he had no plans to leave and said he felt his time was coming with the Tigers.
Tom Green with AL.com shared Martin’s comments:
“I felt like I had an alright season, you know,” Martin said. “I’m very blessed to be here at Auburn. My time is going to come this year. I’m believing it, because I know it’s going to happen.”
Martin did have a solid season with 453 rushing yards and 2 TDs while averaging 6.1 YPC. Keeping him at Auburn should feel like a win for fans as he will provide a piece to build around as Johnson departs.
Martin went to say he understands he doesn’t control when he does and does not play, but he pointed out tries to make plays every time he touches the ball:
“I really can’t control when I can get in the game and stuff, but when I do, I always think like — I’m on the sideline telling myself, ‘when I get in there, make plays so like I’m probably going to get the ball again,'” Martin said. “You know, that’s all there is to it. Whenever I get in, I just want to make plays for my teammates.”
The Tigers will also welcome 4-star in-state RB Asa Martin in 2018. He signed with Auburn during the early signing period and will look to make an immediate impact.
