Rece Davis has made his position known about College Football Playoff expansion, and he doubled down on those thoughts during a segment on “The Paul Finebaum Show” on Tuesday.
“I think it’s time for the Playoff to expand, I think we’re all looking forward to games that matter at the end,” said Davis, the host of ESPN’s “College GameDay.” “But it comes at a cost, and I don’t understand why people don’t just accept it. If you want to say that it’s more important to me to have an Oklahoma State-Kansas State game still mean something in November, and that’s more important to me than having an Alabama-LSU, like the 2019 game, basically be a winner-take-all. If you want to say the former’s more important than the latter, that’s your right to think that, but I don’t like the idea that people say, ‘That doesn’t matter,’ yes it does.”
While he’s in favor of Playoff expansion, Davis realizes it comes at a cost, and sometimes it may be a midseason regular season game.
“From my standpoint, I’m not going to be quiet about acknowledging that,” Davis said. “Hopefully that won’t be at a cost that diminishes the experience for fans and for anybody on any given Saturday throughout the regular season.”
