Week 3 of SEC action is headlined by a top-25 clash between No. 6 Georgia and No. 15 Tennessee in Knoxville.
The two bitter rivals will both kick off their respective in-conference slates against one another, and will both look to make an early-season statement at the expense of the other.
ESPN’s Rece Davis recently sat down with fellow commentator Pete Thamel to discuss the high-profile matchup.
“I just have too many questions about Georgia,” Thamel said. “Questions about their offense. Defense is good, but not the elite defense we remember from there. I have visceral memories, Rece, standing on the sideline with you watching those games in Neyland when it is a cauldron of desperation, and they really want to end this slide against Georgia. So, I’m taking the Fighting (Joey) Aguilars.”
Thamel raised several excellent points about the concerns the Dawgs have raised over the first couple of weeks, but those early road bumps haven’t swayed Davis, as he predicted Georgia to come out on top for the ninth straight year in rather poetic fashion.
“No sir,” Davis responded. “On Saturday afternoon, the people in red and black, who are, inexplicably, grown people barking at one another, but they’ll have a little chicken, they’ll have a little drink. They’ll look at the girls, and they’ll give 1 or 2 a wink. They’ve been waiting since last Saturday to see another beat. Friends, it’s time once again to let the big dog eat. Big Dawgs, by at least 4 points.”
Kickoff between the 2 teams is set for 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC. Georgia is a 3.5-point favorite in the game, per BetMGM.
