Rece Davis takes dig at Big Ten fans over Penn State’s early-season cupcakes

Rece Davis is gearing up for another college football season, and he isn’t holding any punches when it comes to calling out anybody.

College football fans across the country have taken their fair share of shots when it comes to how the SEC schedules its game. The B1G fans are especially vocal against the SEC, as the conference is the closest competitor in on field success to the SEC.

Davis was talking to Pete Thamel on College Football Countdown on Saturday when Thamel made notice of Penn State’s weak schedule, to which Davis took a shot at B1G fans who take issue with SEC teams having cupcake games on their schedule.

“Oh, Pete, how dare you,” Davis said jokingly. “You know only the SEC plays cupcakes! I read about it from the Big Ten fans on the X machine!”

Thamel was comparing Penn State’s schedule to the one Michigan had two seasons ago and Ohio State had last season. Both of those teams went on to win the national title, and they didn’t have to face some of the tough non-conference games other teams across the country had to.

To start the year, the Nittany Lions have home games against Nevada, Florida International and Villanova before the start of B1G play. James Franklin’s team doesn’t appear to have a game that will be challenging until the Nittany Lions host Oregon on Sept. 27.

Trash talk is a part of college football, and it is going to be that way forever. Whether it is fans, players or even commentators like Davis, that is one thing that will never change in the sport.
