Top SEC recruits choosing sides during rivalry week visits

The competition during rivalry week wasn’t limited to the field.

Plenty of recruits made official visits Saturday.

Eddy Pineiro, a top-ranked kicker who committed to Alabama, was in Gainesville on Saturday for the Florida-Florida State game.

He wasn’t alone. Mark Thompson, a JUCO standout who committed to the Gators, was with him.

“I’m trying to be a Gator, man,” Thompson said in a video Pineiro posted. “I’m ready to suit up.”

Pineiro is no stranger to creating a buzz on social media. Over the summer he posted videos of himself making 65 and 73-yard field goals.

Florida and Miami also have offered him a scholarship.

Tennessee also is hosting several standout recruits for today’s game against Vanderbilt. The list includes 4-star defensive tackle Alexis Johnson.
