OFFENSIVE RED ZONE STATISTICS
Through Week 7, Kentucky was the only SEC team that had managed to score on every red zone trip, going an impressive 16-for-16. At the time, no other Power 5 team was perfect on its scoring chances. However, the Wildcats’ string of perfection ended last week against Auburn as Kentucky scored on all but one of its six trips, which saw QB Patrick Towles throw an interception in the end zone on first-and-goal from the 8-yard line.
In terms of touchdowns, Mississippi State (76 percent) and Kentucky (68.2 percent) lead the way, then after that you run into some of the SEC’s best teams like Florida (66.7), LSU (66.7) and Alabama (63.3) at 3rd, 4th and 5th, respectively.
South Carolina is last in the conference at converting touchdowns, only about 29 percent of trips, while settling for field goals in a league-high 53 percent of trips.

DEFENSIVE RED ZONE STATISTICS
Vanderbilt sits at both ends of the spectrum when it comes to scoring percentage. The Commodores’ offense ranks dead last, coming away with points just 60.9 percent of the time, but the defense leads the SEC by allowing a score at rate of just 71.4 percent. It’s also 2nd in the league by allowing touchdown in 8 of 21 opportunities.
The three elite SEC teams mentioned in the previous section — LSU, Alabama and Florida — are surprisingly sit at the bottom of the SEC in defensive red zone scoring percentage, but keep in mind they’ve allowed fewer opportunities for their opponents. The Tide and the Gators are significantly better at preventing teams from getting in the end zone, but the Tigers are also last in that department (80 percent opponent touchdown rate).
