Tennessee is in the midst of its best season in years. On Oct. 15, it pulled off something it hadn’t done in a decade-and-a-half: beat Alabama.

While the Volunteers, who are expected to breeze past in-state FCS foe UT-Martin on Saturday, are 6-0 and ranked No. 3 in the country, there’s some discussion that they should be atop the polls. The last time that happened was in 1998, the year of the Vols’ last national championship.

Of course, Georgia is No. 1 as things stand now. But Matt Leinart and Reggie Bush made the argument on Saturday’s “Big Noon Kickoff” on FOX that Tennessee should hold that spot.

”They’ve earned that right based on their resume. They’ve beaten Pitt, LSU, and then the big win last week against Alabama. I would say this: They’ve got arguably the No. 1 offense in college football next to Ohio State,” Leinart said.

Bush brought up what could be a top 3 matchup when the Vols take on Georgia at Sanford Stadium on Nov. 5.

”Tennessee has the best win, so far, of the season. But I do have that game circled in 2 weeks, cause that game is going to tell us a lot about who the best team is,” said Bush. “We’re going to find out a lot about this team when they gotta play Georgia. They have a tough schedule left, so we’ll see.”
