Ohio State point guard DJ Carton entered the NCAA transfer portal Thursday, and he’s already drawing interest from 13 schools. Specifically in the SEC, 3 programs are interested in Carton — Alabama, Arkansas and Auburn. Along with the SEC trio, Creighton, DePaul, Georgia Tech, Illinois, Minnesota, Nebraska, Oklahoma, Oregon, Seton Hall and USC are also showing interest, according to 247Sports.com.

The Bettendorf, Iowa, native played in 20 games in 2019-20, making 3 starts. He averaged 10.4 points and 3 assists in nearly 24 minutes per game. He took a leave of absence from the team in January citing mental health issues. He returned to the team in February.

“Buckeye Nation, I first want to say thank you to all the Ohio State fans who supported me during the difficult times I went through this year,” he wrote in a Twitter statement. “I also want to thank the university, my teammates, the coaches and all the staff who went above and beyond to help my family and me this year. After some careful thought and consideration, I have decided to make a fresh start and enter the transfer portal. I wish Coach Holtmann and my teammates the best of luck next year. Please respect my decision.”

Carton was a former 4-star prospect and ranked as the nation’s No. 4 point guard in the class of 2019, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings.
