Report: 4-star UGA RB decommit in contact with pair of SEC schools

Four-star RB Toneil Carter crushed the Bulldogs faithful Monday morning when he announced he was decommitting from Georgia due to Nick Chubb and Sony Michel’s decisions to stay for 2017.
“I’ve been in contact with the Georgia coaches and due to the two seniors (Nick Chubb and Sony Michel) staying, something came up with the early enrollment process,” Carter said in his decommitment statement.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Crabtree, Carter’s attention has shifted to Texas, Baylor, Texas A&M and Florida. Carter’s recruitment is complicated by the fact that he planned to be an early enrollee at Georgia, and coaching staffs are in a dead period which they cannot initiate contact with a recruit.
If Carter is set on early enrolling, he would likely choose between the four schools listed above based on some familiarity with the coaches. Crabtree notes that Carter might back off enrolling in January, wait for the dead period to end (Jan. 12), and begin scheduling visits.
Carter, a product of Langham Creek in Houston, is rated the No. 7 running back and No. 21 Texas prospect of the 2017 class by 247Sports Composite. It’s understandable why he doesn’t want to wait a year behind Chubb and Michel, as his highlights show a ball-carrier able to compete for playing time in most backfields, including Florida and Texas A&M.
