Four-star Alabama commit VanDarius Cowan has been kicked off his high school football team, according to a report from The Palm Beach Post.

The report cited Cowan’s actions during Palm Beach Gardens’ loss to Wellington last Thursday as a potential reason for his dismissal. He was benched after committing two early penalties and was reportedly disinterested for the remainder of the game, talking to fans and eating on the sidelines.

The narrow 12-10 loss cost Palm Beach Gardens a chance to win its district title.

Cowan was scheduled to receive his U.S. Army All-American Game jersey at his school Tuesday, but the ceremony has been cancelled, according to the report. The linebacker will also not be allowed to play in the all-star game Jan. 7.

He’s rated the fourth-best at his position and No. 70 overall prospect in the class of 2017, per 247Sports composite rankings.
