Report: Alabama S Deionte Thompson has surgery, expected to miss Combine

Departed Alabama S Deionte Thompson is considered one of the top safety prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft, but it looks like he won’t get to show off for teams at the upcoming Combine.
NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport is reporting that Thompson had surgery Friday morning to repair a torn ligament in his wrist. It is expected to keep Thompson from participating in next week’s NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis, but should not lead to any long-term issues according to Rapoport.
In January, Thompson announced that he was forgoing his final season of eligibility at Alabama to declare for the NFL Draft. In 2018, he recorded 79 tackles, six passes defensed (two interceptions plus four pass breakups), three forced fumbles and 3.5 tackles for loss. He is projected as a first-round pick by Draft Wire.

Update: AL.com’s Matt Zenits has provided further details, reporting that Thompson’s injury occurred during his pre-draft training. The projected recovery time is 6-8 weeks.
