After entering the 2018 season with Heisman buzz, Arizona QB Khalil Tate had a disappointing junior season under new coach Kevin Sumlin.

That recently led to reports that Tate would either transfer or enter the 2019 NFL Draft, but now it appears that won’t be the case.

Tate had been a big SEC transfer target, but now it appears he’ll be back in Tucson next fall (via Tucson.com):

Tate and his parents spoke with Wildcats coach Kevin Sumlin on Tuesday. They collectively concluded that Tate’s best move would be to return in 2019 and work to improve his game.

Sumlin and OC Noel Mazzone never really seemed to figure out how to use Tate in 2018, trying to turn him into more of a passer rather than the dynamic running threat he was in 2017.

However, with a full year under their belts, perhaps that relationship will work better in 2019.
